From Passion to Purpose: Lessons From Building Camia’s Scents
October is Women’s Small Business Month—a time to celebrate the women who turn ideas into businesses, businesses into legacies, and passions into purpose.
For me, building Camia’s Scents has been all three.
What started as a creative outlet and a way to earn additional income has grown into something much deeper. Camia’s Scents has become a reflection of my faith, my creativity, my love for people, and my desire to build something that serves a greater purpose.
But the journey from passion to purpose didn't happen overnight.
It has been built through faith, lessons, challenges, growth, and plenty of moments when I had to trust God even when I couldn't see the entire path ahead.
It Started With a Passion
Camia’s Scents was established in 2021.
At the beginning, I was drawn to the creativity of making candles and creating beautiful fragrances. There was something special about taking individual ingredients and turning them into something that could change the atmosphere of someone's home.
But entrepreneurship quickly taught me that loving what you do is only the beginning.
Running a business requires discipline, consistency, patience, financial responsibility, customer service, marketing, problem-solving, and the willingness to keep learning.
I had to move from simply asking:
“What do I enjoy doing?”
to asking:
“What am I called to build?”
That question changed everything.
Lesson #1: Your Passion Can Open the Door, But Purpose Keeps You Moving
There will be days when entrepreneurship is exciting.
There will also be days when you're questioning everything.
Sales may be slower than expected. A launch may not go according to plan. You may have more expenses than you anticipated. You may feel like you're doing ten jobs at once because, as a small-business owner, you probably are!
Passion can get you excited about the vision.
Purpose reminds you why the vision matters when things get difficult.
For me, that purpose became clearer as Camia’s Scents evolved into a Christian, Kingdom-driven business.
I began to see the business differently.
It wasn't simply about selling candles and room sprays.
It was about creating products that encourage people to slow down, create peaceful spaces, practice self-care, and be intentional about the atmosphere they cultivate in their homes and lives.
My business became an extension of my values.
Lesson #2: Don't Be Afraid to Let Your Business Evolve
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that growth sometimes requires you to change.
Your first idea may not look like your final vision.
And that's okay.
Camia’s Scents has evolved over the years—from its products and collections to its messaging and, most importantly, its purpose.
The rebranding of Camia’s Scents as a Christian business was one of the moments I'm most proud of.
It gave me the freedom to stop separating my faith from my entrepreneurship.
I realized that I didn't have to choose between being a business owner and being a woman of faith.
God could be at the center of both.
That realization shaped the direction of the brand:
Business is ministry, and ministry is business.
Not because every product needs to be a sermon, but because the way we build, serve, lead, treat people, and steward what God has entrusted to us matters.
Lesson #3: Growth Requires Stewardship
Entrepreneurship isn't just about making money.
It's about learning how to manage money.
It's about understanding your numbers, making wise decisions, investing back into your business, knowing when to say no, and recognizing the difference between revenue and profit.
I've learned that having a vision for your business also means having the discipline to steward the resources required to bring that vision to life.
That lesson has influenced my passion for financial literacy as well.
I believe women should feel empowered to understand their money, build wealth, protect what they're building, and make informed financial decisions.
Because what's the point of building something if we don't know how to sustain it?
Lesson #4: You Don't Have to Build Alone
One of the most humbling lessons of entrepreneurship is recognizing that you cannot do everything yourself.
Sometimes we wear independence like a badge of honor.
But asking for help isn't weakness.
It's wisdom.
There are areas where I have had to learn, seek advice, build relationships, outsource, collaborate, and admit that I don't know everything.
Building a business requires community.
Customers.
Mentors.
Family.
Friends.
Other entrepreneurs.
People who believe in your vision enough to encourage you when you're tired and challenge you when you need to grow.
Your village matters.
Lesson #5: Don't Lose Yourself While Building the Dream
Entrepreneurship can easily consume you.
There is always another email to answer.
Another post to create.
Another product idea.
Another goal.
Another invoice.
Another strategy.
Another thing that needs your attention.
But I've learned that success cannot simply mean building a business while neglecting the woman who is building it.
Rest matters.
Family matters.
Faith matters.
Your health matters.
Your relationships matter.
Your peace matters.
That's part of why self-care is so important to the Camia's Scents brand.
A beautiful home isn't just about how it looks or smells.
It's about how it feels.
And sometimes creating a peaceful atmosphere is a reminder to ourselves that we are allowed to pause, breathe, pray, rest, and reset.
From Passion to Purpose
Looking back at the journey of Camia's Scents, I'm grateful for every chapter.
The exciting ones.
The challenging ones.
The uncertain ones.
The lessons.
The wins.
The mistakes.
The moments when I had to start over.
They all contributed to the business—and the woman—I am becoming.
I've learned that purpose isn't always revealed all at once.
Sometimes God gives you the first step and asks you to trust Him with the rest.
That's what entrepreneurship has taught me.
Start with what you have.
Learn as you go.
Stay faithful to the vision.
Be willing to evolve.
Steward what you've been given.
And don't be afraid to let God redirect you.
Camia's Scents began with passion.
But over time, that passion became purpose.
And I'm still building.
Still learning.
Still dreaming.
Still creating.
Still trusting God with the vision.
To Every Woman Building Something
If you're a woman building a business, starting a ministry, creating a product, developing a service, writing a book, pursuing a dream, or simply trying to figure out your next step—I want to encourage you:
Don't despise your beginning.
Your idea may look small right now.
Your audience may be small.
Your resources may be limited.
Your business may still be finding its identity.
Keep learning.
Keep building.
Keep seeking God.
And remember that the size of your beginning doesn't determine the significance of your purpose.
Your passion may be the seed.
Your discipline may be the soil.
Your faith may be what keeps you cultivating it.
And in God's timing, that seed can become something far greater than you initially imagined.
Here's to the women who are building.
The dreamers.
The risk-takers.
The mothers.
The creatives.
The leaders.
The entrepreneurs.
The women starting over.
The women building quietly.
The women building boldly.
And the women who are trusting God with every step.
Happy Women's Small Business Month.
Keep building what God placed in your hands.
